Arunachal Pradesh (India) marked in Chinese on Google Maps

google map itanagar Do you see those Chinese names and Chinese characters? Looks like some place in China, right? Maybe you also noticed Itanagar (capital of Arunachal Pradesh, India), Naharlagun and NH52A on the map; if not, look again.

What do you make of it? How did the Chinese come up with the names of all those places in Arunachal Pradesh already? Does the Government of India know that Arunachal Pradesh is shown as Chinese territory on Google Maps?

How will India react to this once they come to know about it? Probably the usual statements of self-assertion?

Three interesting questions:

i. Why does China feel so confident about claiming a whole state of India?
ii. Why does China want Arunachal Pradesh?
iii. How would the Government of India react to a Chinese military offence to claim Arunachal Pradesh?

Arunachal News tries to answer those questions (please post your answers in the comments section):

i. Because India has the image of a soft Asian power. China suspects India’s military might, not to mention the fact that it already has tasted victory over India in the 1962 Sino-Indian war. China likens India to a huge man with the heart of a chicken – you know that tough looking coward.

ii. When you keep a plot of land unused for a long time, your neighbor is very likely to encroach upon it and most probably will snatch if from you.  Arunachal Pradesh is one of the most neglected states of India. There could be various reasons why it is so, but the fact is that the state remains underdeveloped and neglected till today. Maybe China sees some potential in Arunachal Pradesh which India has failed to do? Or maybe China wants it just for strategic reasons? The strategic advantages of possessing Arunachal Pradesh would be immense in case of a future conflict with any force south of China. And taking over a whole state from India would be the ultimate announcement of Chinese supremacy over Asia, and confirmation of China as a world superpower.

iii. Go into defensive attack?

India needs to grow some balls seriously, and then read a book called “The Art of War” by Chinese commander Sun Tzu. Last but not the least India should never forget the adage: “If you give them an inch, they’ll take a mile”.

Jai Hind!

I am very happy to see this point being noticed. I noticed it a week back when I was searching for a remote place in AP and found its name written in chinese text!!! I think we all need to write to honorable CM and governor to report this to google and/or take action against it. china can ask google to remove some contents from its search engine overnight, and India also should be able to ask it remove the chinese text from there.

I wanted to report another such incident here. In google earth, I saw a beautiful vertical cliff near Tawang, in the indian region (below McMohan line). someone wrote there ‘welcome to china’. Such stupidigy and aggresion!!! How can someone dare touch our motherland in this way? Time for us to be firm. Jai hind…

Wikimapia seems to be decent, since it clearly states Arunachal Pradesh as Indian Territory

I hope the government of India will notice this. India and China talk about the Arunachal issue today, by the way.

  4. [...] media to report about Arunachal Pradesh being marked in Chinese (Mandarin) in  Google Maps (we had reported the case a week ago). Glad that the Government and more people have finally noticed [...]

  5. Esskey says:

Google has absolutely no rights to decide which state belongs to whom…. if the chicken-headed chinese cant read english then let them learn it first and then read the map…. google should display all map content in english only.

  6. Vinod Shashtri says:

Some are speculating Chinese hackers did it. But I doubt it. Google should have consulted with the Government of India before doing it. Of course, they did it because China had asked them too.

  7. (on behalf) Google Spokesperson says:

Earlier this week, as part of a routine update to Google Earth, we published new data for the Arunachal Pradesh region that changed the depiction of certain place names in the product. The change was a result of a mistake in our processing of new map data .We are in the process of reverting the data to its previous state, and expect the change to be visible in the product shortly. We would like to clarify that this issue did not impact our depiction of international borders.

We hope you are authentic. Thanks for letting speaking out and explaining the incident.

  9. Indian GOV should make a quick move to this issue before it is late or else face consequences.

  11. Prashant says:

I’m not at all understanding why Chinese are claiming Arunachal Pradesh as their territory inspite of knowing that it’s an integral part of India since 1947. India should not tolerate such pressures. It should try to pressurize the Chinese my taking into trust to the International Superpowers otherwise if given Arunachal, in near future, Kashmir, Sikkim, Manipur, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Assam, Meghalay and many other states won’t be seen on the Indian map. This is not a world war so that anybody can take over the part of any other country.

  12. jklim says:

give back south tibet to china.

  13. qwerty says:

    @jklim

South tibet? Tibet itself is another country and it will become a independent country soon.So till then you chinese slant eyed fat bastards can go suck each others small cock and balls.

  14. Ranadhir C says:

I am shocked to read and learn about the incident. This is absolutely ridiculous on part of China/Google to mark Arunachal Pradesh as Chinese territory. It is high time that the State Government along with the Govt. of India raise its voice of concern and take appropriate action against Google and ask its Chinese counterpart and Google search engine to remove such unwanted marking of Indian territory, immediately. Arunachal Pradesh has been an integral part of India ever since India attained its Independence and it will remain so till eternity. We the Indians will not spare even an inch of our dear motherland.

  15. aman says:

south tibet? give back? ye to pura ka pura pagal chini kutta lag raha hai. meaning you are just like a mad chinese dog. you should be shot.

  16. Manish Aggarwal says:

No one can distort our map in any case it is crime towards India whether it is anybodies policy to soothe everyone or no-one. But in any part of world India should be visible as shown by our Indian Govt. I demand stern action against Google or other websites which are showing map with disputed area and operating India. Make an example for other websites also that they can not even think about it.
General people of India think that China is the major threat in every area. China is making every possible move which can make a liitle or big harm to India.
    1. Fake drugs in Nigeria labelled as Indian. 2. Denial of visa to two IAS officers from Arunachal Pradesh saying that they are travelling their own country. 3. Visa on separate paper to Kashmiris. 4.Showing J&K as a different country in maps distributed in tibet.5. Painting Stones with China in red inside Indian border. 6. This March, China broke with Asian tradition and tried to block a $2.9 billion loan to India at the Asian Development Bank, furious that the loan would fund a $60 million flood-management program in Arunachal Pradesh. 7. Increase in incursions in Indian territory. 8. China remains an opponent of India’s bid to join the United Nations Security Council and a staunch ally of India’s nemesis, Pakistan. 9. Making String of Poisionous pearls around India. 10. Back in 2006, China’s Ambassador to India ignited a political firestorm when he declared the “whole state of Arunachal Pradesh is Chinese territory… we are claiming all of that. That is our position.” 11. Resisting visiting of Arunachal Pradesh by our PM and Honourable Dalai Lama. 12. Dumping cheap and low quality goods in Indian Market to slowdown our industries. 13. Printing fake Indian currency and make it run into India by Pakistanis through Nepal, Bangladesh. 14. Supporting Indian rebels in north-east and in naxalites with arms and amunitions to make hue and cry within INDIA. and that is not the end of incidents but it is a very well planned strategy to make India entangled in various issues at one time with motive that India should not have time to think about strength, growth, stability towards superpower.
Wether it is economic, political, defence, or on international platform or in every way it can, dumping cheap goods, financing neighbouring countries and making strategic naval base for future attck or dominance in Arab, Hind ocean. I think general people of INDIA can or should do one thing do not buy “made in china” product buy other same product a little expensive because every paise they are making in India using it against India. India should develop infrastructure along all china border area on a war foot. Just keep on buying new defence equipments or technology from any where in the world as soon as possible because in the crucial time some good friends may say NO. Give a compulsory small military training to every border area villagers. Do some strong and visible steps for safety and security of My Motherland INDIA.

  17. Siddhu says:

very well said Manish Aggarwal…i agree with u…i will like to add to it..The most important thing which we need right now is UNITY..All Indians and those with Indian origin must get together and speak in one voice. We Indians are peace loving we don’t harm anyone BUT if anyone tries to harm us we will DESTROY him..
We Indians must learn from our mistakes in past and REMEMBER THAT ENEMIES REMAIN ENEMIES, they can never be friends.
    JAI HIND !!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Abraham says:

  25. JM says:

As China grows in power so too will it’s ambition and it’s nationalism.

You Indian people are in a lot of trouble. China has it’s giant eye on you and the dragon is hungry.

If you don’t get your country together China will take what it wants from you and leave you what is left…

Indian’s Leaders need to invest in Schools and Infrastructure EVERYWHERE along the Borders of Indian NOW-TODAY, along with Military bases and a system of Indian barricade fortresses…

  26. Jane says:

Indian Govt has been doing a little injustice to our state. Neither it is providing with proper infrastructure like roads, rails (i know it is hilly area, but Sikkim is hillier and still has), or schools/colleges rather it is making a dumping ground for the refugees from Tibet and Bangladesh, who challenge us.

    Many Thanks to Indian Govt.
