About Arunachal News

Arunachal News is the totally free and democratic medium for you to participate in bringing news, big and small, about Arunachal Pradesh to interested people around the world.

Traditional news media like TV, newspaper and word-of-mouth are slow, highly localized and often edited to the level of censorship. Arunachal News shall be news as it happens, fast and globally accessible. There are no editors involved, front pagers are decided by popularity among users, based on votes.

Arunachal News is the unified Internet age incarnation of community-driven news network. The need for such a system has been there for a long time - news and discussions would be posted on various segments of the Internet like Yahoo! Groups, Orkut, Blogs, IRC and personal websites, and everyone talked about a unified platform every once in a while. On Arunachal News everyone is welcome to post any news they think is important. Other users vote for the 'newsworthyness' of the news and promote them to the front page. If you think a news is incorrect/irrelevant, you can bury it to decrease its votes. Arunachal News also provides a discussion system for the posted news to let you voice your opinion and discuss it with other users about the news.

Arunachal News is not just limited to news in the traditional sense, if you find an interesting article, picture or video relevant to Arunachal, you can post them too. They too are eligible for front page item and will have the same discussion system.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who created Arunachal News?
We are a group of young Arunachali guys currently staying outside the state studying and/or working.

  2. Why did you create Arunachal News?
We created Arunachal News to enable sharing of information, particularly relevent to Arunachal, among Arunachalis backhome and around the world. Incidents like a landslide on the way to Daporijo, breaking of the shortcut bridge off NH52-A, construction of a new shopping mall may seem trivial to those backhome but they mean a lot to people ouside the state, and there is no way they will ever come to know about it on National TV or the Times of India. If you are located in any part of Arunachal and have access to the Internet, you can cover news that is ignored, censored or not considered by the popular media there. A news not published by the Arunachal Times or the Echo of Arunachal does not mean they are not important - not anymore.

Arunachalis residing outside the state can post news about what's happening at their end to let those backhome/other countries know about it; like student's meeting, admissions to colleges, employment opportunities and so on, anything an Arunachali may find useful or interesting.

  3. What kind of news can I post?
You can post any Arunachal-related information your common sense says people would like to know about. Also take care to post them in the appropriate category.
