Kiren questions EC and Govt role

ITANAGAR, Apr 17: BJP MP candidate Kiren Rijiju had some tough words for Election Commission. Addressing a press conference here this afternoon, he said that Election Commission must have learnt some lesson from yesterday’s incidents. In the Western constituency as many as 12 stations had to adjourn polls following violence. Most of them were in state capital. In many of the stations, security was reported to be inadequate.

We were hoping for a peaceful election but it is unfortunate that despite BJP’s repeated request and memorandums submitted to the Election Commission and the concern state authority to ensure full proof security in sensitive areas the state government deliberately created an atmosphere where election cannot be conducted, he alleged.

The state government’s duty is to provide peace and security to the people of the state. However, after witnessing yesterday’s incident of EVMs being destroyed across various polling stations besides booth capturing in the state capital, one is left with a doubt if the state government will provide peace and security for the people, Rijiju said.

The ruling congress in the state has bluntly murdered democracy and it is clear for the people to see what the state government has done, he added.

He further added that it is shocking that the ruling congress party engineered the gathering of anti social elements and has destroyed polling stations one after another.

If the government is attacking polling agents of the BJP besides threatening polling officials, presiding officers and police personnel, there is no faith left on the government.

There is nothing called government at this stage, Rijiju further said.

He appealed the election commission to notify the dates of re-polling of various polling stations as soon as possible. Once electoral process is over, BJP will call on the people to decide the fate of the present government, the MP candidate said.

Free and fair election keeping democratic spirit and ethos of the society was totally nil, Rijiju said.

Political party must be able to read the pulse of the people and not be forceful. The ruling congress government should let the people decide and also respect their decisions said BJP candidate Kiren Rijiju during a press meet here today.

Broad day light robbery of the polling stations is an alien culture to the people of the state. People responsible for bringing such culture have no right to say anything to the younger generation as they have chosen the path to destruction, Rijiju said.

The youths are the future of the country. They should be used for the nation building purpose and not for booth capturing, he said and added that the present government has lost the moral authority to say anything for the people.

The congress has destroyed the peaceful and loving character of the youths and the people of Arunachal Pradesh have witnessed the naked truth of the congress party and its leaders. Itanagar or the state is not safe in the hands of the present state government, Rijiju said.

Congress has accepted defeat and that is why they have involved themselves in such hideous crime. The incidents that have taken place on polling day should serve as a moral lesson for the people of the state as to what kind of leader and what kind of work will be done for common good, he added.

Rijiju who is confident of winning the polls by over 50,000 votes alleged that attack on various polling stations was the desperate last minute attempt of the ruling congress to disrupt the electioneering process.

Voters stood rock solid with me because people trust me, Rijiju said and added that the Congress should make their position their position clear before making any allegations. Their claims and allegation against me have no base, he further said.

Rijiju further claimed that the public of Doimukh who were denied from exercising their franchise by culprits have critised the concern authority from allowing such events to take place.

BJP is very unhappy that the peaceful trend maintained in previous elections have been destroyed. If such incidents can happen in the state capital much is left to be desired for the interior areas, he said.

The party is gearing up for re-poll Rijiju said.
