Namdapha Festival concludes with a call to uphold its spirit

Miao, Feb 7: The 3day 5th Namdapha Eco-cultural Festival organised here from February 5 has concluded this evening with a call to uphold its upbeat spirit. MLA Kamlung Mossang, participating as the chief guest has called upon the people to lend their support in realising the objective of the unique festival.

The MLA, while giving away prizes to winners of various events conducted during the celebration, thanked the people for making the event a success, and asked them to maintain this spirit. He said that through successful celebration of the festival with the support of all sections of people, the economy of the region can be transformed.

The festival started in 2004 with a twin objective of promoting the rich cultural heritage of the people of the district and preservation of environment, Namdapha Eco-cultural Festival has drawn the attraction of people from far and wide. This year also hundreds of curious visitors especially from neighbouring Assam and various places of the district have visited Miao and other tourist spots such as Namdapha national Park and other places.

Sethai Sena, the organising president has expressed satisfaction about the festival. He informed that a few new events including river rafting have been added to the events this year and a few more would be included in the coming year to attract more visitors from outside.

The three-day event has witnessed tremendous popularity as was seen by the thronging of thousands of people particularly the youth. Joy Chakravarty, the singing sensation of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa fame has also performed to give a boost to the celebration during the concluding programme besides several other local artists and groups.

Other major events conducted were eco-run, river rafting and fashion shows of both modern and traditional wears. DDIPR
