ITANAGAR, Apr 18: The public outrage against the obstruction of Polling at Doimukh shows no sign of respite with the citizens of the area threatening to launch mass agitation if the administration fails to meet their demands within 48 hours.
Citizens are demanding the ‘punishment of the mastermind’, who was behind the incident. They also demanded immediate arrest of the ‘culprits,’ who destroyed the EVM on poll day and deployment of security forces on fresh poll day.
In a press communiqué issued, they came down heavily on the ‘excesses’ by youths, who, they allege owed allegiance to All Nyishi Students’ Union and demanded resignation of president and general secretary of the student body, besides deciding to boycott any type of student bodies activities within the Doimukh circle.
Thousands of people took to streets demanding the re-arrest of youth involved in EVM destruction. The irate mob also overturned two govt department vehicles in front of EAC office, pelted stones at EAC office.
On the other hand ANSU has denied “baseless politically motivated allegations of booth capturing and destruction of EVMs”.
The union president Niglar Veo and general secretary Lika Tabo denied all charges and in a joint statement said that allegations were unfounded and without any iota of truth and aimed at tarnishing the image of the union. ANSU has always been striving for the greater glory of the community and for its all round development. The demand for our resignation has no locus standi as we have completely denied our involvement in the episode, they said. They further said that ‘hint of dissociation with the union was unfortunate.’
They further appealed the youths and students to asses everything with right spirit and not be influenced by any forces.
